This January, a new pasta joint will open in four Greater Manchester locations, with each restaurant serving hearty bowls of house-made Rigatoni from just £7.50. Founded by the team behind Manchester-born pasta spot SUD, previously named Sugo Pasta Kitchen, Rigatoni’s aims to bring quality pasta to the masses.
The new restaurants will open in the former SUD locations in Altrincham, Ancoats, Sale, plus Exhibition in the city centre. Rigatoni’s comes from the Manchester-born brothers who originally founded Sugo Pasta Kitchen, in Altrincham in 2015.
Having gathered a cult following over the last eight years, the team behind the brand have now developed this new restaurant concept. The owners of SUD announced earlier this month that it would be closing its doors on December 31 and that they “look forward to sharing our next chapter”.
The house-made rigatoni is the star of the show, and will be extruded fresh daily at each site, through a bronze die which will give the pasta a rough texture that the sauces will cling to ‘asciutta’ style. The pasta will come with a variety of sauces drenching the pasta, including the ‘Nduja Meatballs in Amatriciana Sauce, FAZOOL! White Beans, Garlic, Fresh Chilli & Parmesan, Brown Crab, Vodka Sauce and Tarragon, or as simple as it gets with Extra Virgin Oil, Salt, Pepper & Parmesan, with prices ranging from £7.50 to £13.50.
Appetisers at Rigatoni’s include the Fried Mozzarella & Pesto Sandwich, Salami & Potato Crocchette and Chickpea Fritters with Parmesan, ranging from £4.50 to £6. There are also a selection of Foccaccia Toasts, with toppings to include Gorgonzola Whip & Hot Honey, Grated Tomato, Garlic & Salt or Black Olive & Caper Spread.
Alex de Martiis, co-founder said: “Change has been a regular thing for us recently – that stops with Rigatoni’s. We want to build a sustainable business that allows us to serve the customers in our communities for years to come.
“The next chapter in our journey is all about creating an accessible, uncomplicated menu that makes Rigatoni’s somewhere that people come to time and time again. Whether it’s a quick lunch on a Tuesday, or a Saturday night with mates, pasta shouldn’t just be for occasions.”
Rigatoni’s will open in Ancoats on January 6, followed by Altrincham on January 9 and Sale on January 10. The restaurant is also set to open its kitchen within Exhibition in the city centre from January 6, with Deliveroo and takeaways available from all venues from January 15.
