Manchester’s favourite day of the year is making a return for 2024 with the date of this year’s annual event now revealed. Manchester Day is a celebration of the city and all things Mancunian and will be taking place on Saturday 27 July 2024.
When it first began, Manchester Day revolved around a parade through the city, but last year the format was changed to become a ‘promenade style’ event with activities across the whole of the city centre. Like the 2023 event that saw activities take place in a number of city centre locations, this year’s event is set to take over the entire city centre with even more fun-filled, free activities for all the family to experience and enjoy.
Last year’s event had the theme of Manchester Day on Holiday which saw Deansgate transformed into a seaside haven, with plenty of holiday vibes across the city centre. The theme for Manchester Day 2024 is, however, yet to be revealed.
Councillor Pat Karney, Chair of Manchester Day, said: “Manchester Day has been a highlight in the city’s events calendar for well over a decade now and the feel-good buzz it creates across the city on the day is absolutely fantastic – and best of all, it’s free!
“We know how much everyone loves Manchester’s favourite day of the year and can’t wait to spend it once again celebrating the best city in the world with the very best people in the world – and that’s everyone who calls Manchester their home.”
The council has said that it will be working with creative partners over the coming months on finalising the programme for “a jam-packed, fun-filled day” that will see the city’s streets and squares come to life with all kinds of unexpected things to see and do.
Last year’s event saw the likes of a helter skelter on Deansgate, opera classics, Indian brass music and salsa dancing in St Ann’s Square, a craft market on Market Street, over 250 fire fighters in Cathedral Gardens and music performances in the Northern Quarter.
Manchester Day was created in 2010 with the purpose of celebrating the creativity and diversity of Manchester.
