Say salute to a new pasta pop-up coming to town this month as hit pasta pop-up kitchen Pasta Slut has announced that it will serving up some sumptuous dishes to the people of Manchester. Hosting a residency at Northern Quarter dessert spot Black Milk, Pasta Slut, which was launched by Hayley Meredith in Bristol in 2017, will be offering dishes inspired by the founder’s Sicilian heritage, notably her ‘nonna’.
Self-taught chef Hayley Meredith previously worked for high-end fashion and lingerie retailer Agent Provocateur, which she traded in for a life of cooking pasta to perfection. After successful pop-ups in London, Margate, Bristol and Liverpool, the Pasta Slut concept is coming to Manchester, with two sittings (6pm and 8.30pm) taking place on the night of April 27.
To start, guests will be able to tuck into burrata with broad beans, peas, fried black olives and rosemary focaccia, followed by a main course of anelletti al forno alla Palermitana (vegetarian option available). This is a baked sharing dish with layers and layers of ring-shaped pasta with a beef and pork ragu, which is then baked like a lasagne.
Anelletti al forno alla Palermitana is a typical Sicilian dish, originating from Palermo. The dish is finished with béchamel sauce, fried aubergine, parmesan and mozzarella, then topped with fried garlic breadcrumbs.
Dishes that have become signatures for Pasta Slut include arancini and pasta alla norma, a Sicilian pasta dish with aubergine, pine nuts, salted ricotta and basil, as well as tiramisu. For dessert at this Manchester pop-up, diners can enjoy a pistachio version of the classic Italian dessert that has become a specialist sweet option at the Pasta Slut events.
As for the name Pasta Slut, the founder says it is stemmed from the word being ‘reclaimed’ by the modern feminist movement and the brand even has it’s own merchandise. If you want to mangia on some fine Italian food, tickets to the Pasta Slut pop-up in Manchester cost £35 per person and can be bought here. A second Manchester event will be happening at the Stretford Canteen with a rescheduled date of May 7.
