A small but perfectly formed Italian has been making waves in Denton, Greater Manchester, so we thought it was about time to get the low-down on Ornella’s Kitchen. With a beautifully curated menu of brunch options, focaccia, small plates and mains, the Ornella’s charm shines through before you’ve even pulled up outside the restaurant – obviously you’ll be scouring the menu for days before, as you should.
A former baker at Manchester favourite Pollen, Sicilian-born Ornella Cancila opened the pasta-deli as a love letter to her homeland, and in our humble (English) opinion, we reckon it passes the test with flying colours.
Pop down to the unassuming eatery any time of day and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by its top quality, morning, noon and night. If you’re craving a cheeky Italian elevensies treat, the brunch at Ornella’s Kitchen doesn’t disappoint. With topped sourdough toast options, grilled cheese and the delicious sounding eggs with Parma ham, mushrooms and truffle on the menu, there’s something for everyone with an Italian twist.
The real star of the menu is the range of filled sourdough focaccia, with options including salami, Nduja, aubergine, olive pesto and salsa verde. The unique signature comes in at no more than £8, and we think that’s a barg for what you get.
In terms of mains and small plates, well-made Italian classics are the name of the game. Whether it’s arancini, bucatini carbonara or aubergine and scamorza ravioli you’re after, you’ll leave full to the brim with the most indulgent, lovingly-made treats from all corners of the boot of Europe.
Of course, the menu also boasts options for the kids, as well as fittingly Italian sides and desserts – including ridiculous gelato sandwiches in brioche buns, and sumptuous Sicilian cannoli a la The Godfather, which we’re absolutely chomping at the bit to try. Wash all of this down with whatever you fancy, but you can rest assured everything is of quality – coffee, tea, wine, beer, cocktails, soft drinks and, in true European style, ‘digestivi’.
Ornella’s even has its own brand of coffee beans, available to buy in the deli section of your new fave Italian spot right here in Greater Manchester.
