Masterchef winner Simon Wood founded his flagship restaurant WOOD in Manchester in 2017, bringing a fine dining experience full of seasonal produce and delectable wine pairings, whose mezzanine cheese and wine room Homage is now recruiting a host, an expert on all things cheese. WOOD describes Homage, and in turn the candidates they will be considering, as “sophisticated” and a “perfect marriage of opulence and expertise”.
Describing the role in a LinkedIn vacancy post, the restaurant said: “This is an exciting and unique opportunity for an individual who has a good knowledge for wine and a love of cheese. This is a full-time role, working four days a week at our restaurant in Manchester City Centre.
“The role will require a high level of customer service and attention to detail, experience and knowledge of wine service and a genuine passion and enthusiasm for hospitality at its best.
“WSET knowledge is preferred but not essential. Salary from £24,000 (dependent on experience) plus service charge.” Translation for anyone confused: WSET is the Wine and Spirit Education Trust.
WOOD and Homage sit within the thriving hub of Jack Rosenthal Street, part of the First Street regeneration area which includes other businesses such as HOME and Bunny Jacksons, with easy access to Oxford Road and Deansgate.
On the opening of Homage in 2021, Simon Wood said: “Homage is about connecting, sitting back and enjoying time with family, friends and colleagues, whether you’re having a quiet taster and glass of wine with a friend you’ve not seen in years, or a business meeting over a long port with an associate.”
Homage seems to be a place with real heart, and would, for the right wine and cheese expert, be a wonderful place to work. Anyone interested in the host position who knows a charming Cheddar and a gorgeous Gorgonzola when they taste one, should contact simon@woodmanchester.com with a CV and covering letter.
