Not a meat lover? Then look away now… Because one of Manchester’s newest sports bar, Portland MCR, serves it in pretty epic quantities. Found on Portland Street in the city centre – as its namesake would suggest – the bar and restaurant brings the casual essence of American sports bars to the rainy city, not only with its simple wood-meats-leather décor, but with its menu, too.
Loaded with the epitome of American cuisine – hot dogs and burgers – guests are in for a real, meaty treat when dining at Portland MCR. Whether it’s buffalo chicken, cheese or bacon you like dolloped on top of your burger, there’s a bit of something for everyone. But the real star of the show, of course, is their huge 10-stack bacon cheeseburger.
Consisting of ten juicy beef patties, the tasty burger is layered with American cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese, alongside a generous helping of smoked crispy bacon, deep-fried string onion and lashings of Thousand Island burger sauce. Sandwiched between a seeded bun, it’s a pretty mammoth challenge, and one that the restaurant insists isn’t for the faint-hearted. Despite its large nature, the burger comes in at a competitive price, too, – costing just £20 for the big old hunk of meat. Sign me up.
For those who prefer *not* eating for 10 (but I have to ask, why wouldn’t you?), the menu is jam-packed full of huge hotdogs made with Grandad’s sausages – with toppings such as smoked streak steak, chorizo, American cheese and brisket. If things weren’t saucy enough already, you can even ‘dunk your dog’ in melted cheese sauce or hot sauce, too, or go uber-extra with a sprinkling of Flaming Hot Monster Munch.
Other dishes include their stacked burgers, loaded fries and loaded mac & cheese, which can all be accompanied by draft beers such as Blue Moon, Madri, Atlantic Pale Ale and more, or classic cocktails such as the Tom Collins, Mojito and Long Island Iced Tea (aka, the one with the most booze in it).
