I can see the Golden Arches getting closer…
The much-loved fast-food chain re-opened 39 restaurants for drive-thru only today… And unfortunately for us Mancs, there’s not a single one in the North. Heartbreaking stuff, we know.
The news was confirmed in a statement shared to the UK division’s millions of followers, which revealed that the new drive-thru trial will begin on May 20, and will see 39 stores across the UK and Ireland participating. Additionally, the statement also revealed that the chain plans to re-open all drive-thrus by ‘early June’, giving employees, suppliers and customers a chance to adjust to their new ways of operating.
The post read: “Today we are reopening 39 Drive-Thru lanes at restaurants across the South East of England and in Dublin as we continue to test our plans for reopening. Our teams are still adjusting to the new procedures we’ve introduced to enable safe working and social distancing, so things might take a little longer.
“We expect a high demand across all locations. We are working closely with local authorities and we may determine that it is necessary to close our Drive-Thru lanes if queues cause disruption or put our employees or customers at risk.
“We are aiming to reopen all Drive-Thru lanes by early June and hope to see you soon.”
The first phase of McDonald’s trial re-opening began earlier this month, and included 15 restaurants in the South that currently operate on a delivery basis only – a move that sparked quite the outrage from fans in the North. See the full list of open restaurants here.
