Tier 4 has entered the chat.
Manchester has officially entered Tier 4 Coronavirus restrictions, and while we should be used to the ever-changing rules and last minute lockdowns by now, this one came as a bit of a surprise. The new regulations are thought to have been driven by the recent discovery of a mutant strain of Covid-19, which may be behind the rapid rise in cases around the country. The news comes just hours after the Oxford Coronavirus vaccine was approved by health regulators, meaning hundreds of thousands more Brits can be vaccinated.
These measures will last for two weeks, and will be reviewed by the government mid-January. In the meantime, the general message is to ‘stay at home’ unless you have a ‘reasonable excuse’ to leave. Here is a full list of everything you can and can’t do in Tier 4.
What can’t I do?
- Leave your home for non-essential reasons. You should also work from home where possible.
- Enter or leave Tier 4 areas. All travel (national and international) is prohibited unless you have a ‘reasonable excuse’ (e.g. work or education).
- Visit non-essential retail shops and indoor gyms, which must now close.
- Meet anyone excluding your household or support bubble indoors.
- Attend weddings. Wedding and civil partnerships cannot take place under Tier 4 (except in extenuating circumstances).
What can I do?
- Go to work (only if you cannot work from home). You can also leave the house for education, childcare, medical reasons or to buy food or medicine.
- Unlimited exercise. Outdoor sports courts, gyms and swimming pools are permitted.
- Spend time indoors or outdoors with your support bubble. Children of separated parents can move between households.
- Meet with one person from another household in a public outdoor space.
- Visit a place of worship.
- Attend a funeral (of up to 30 guests).
- Enjoy Christmas with your household and/or support bubble.
