Irish rock band The Script are back, announcing today the release of a new album, Satellites, coming this August and previewing it with the single Both Ways. The Script also revealed a UK and European arena tour will take place later this year, with a date at Manchester’s new arena, Co-op Live.
The band formed in 2001 in Dublin, by lead vocalist, keyboardist, and guitarist Danny O’Donoghue, lead guitarist Mark Sheehan (who passed away last year) and drummer Glen Power and have since gone to achieve 10 billion streams, 12 million album sales, six UK #1 albums and two Platinum-certified US singles. The Script known for songs such as Breakeven, The Man Who Can’t Be Moved, For The First Time and Hall of Fame will kick off their tour in Belfast on November 13 with a performance at Co-op Live in Manchester, which opened this week, on November 30 before heading to a number of European cities.
The new album Both Ways is said to be different from anything the band has previously released and features “boisterous hip-hop and funk rhythms providing the irresistible dance-floor vibes”. The Script vow to pay tribute to their friend Mark Sheehan by continuing the band they had built together and have returned to the studio to experiment in a number of ways: using 808s and playing with R&B-inspired sounds.
Commenting on the new album, Glen Power said: “Both Ways is high energy, and maybe not what people might expect from us. But we’re The Script, and now we have something to prove: that there is life and light after the darkness. It’s why we’re coming fast and strong with that one.”
After reuniting for select shows with The Script family in 2023, the band are about to head out on a massive tour supporting P!nk across the UK, Europe and America before returning to big stages of their own this autumn. This will see them play to over 2 million fans around the world this year. Tour support comes from very special guest Tom Walker on all dates except Berlin, Munich and Milan.
