One thing about us Mancs, we love a good pie. In fact, we have the UK (and probably the world) pie capital right here in Greater Manchester, that’s just how much we love pies. With National Pie Week coming up in March, Salford pub The Black Friar has had a jump on things, hosting their very own pie festival, and to round it off, has launched ‘super MASSIVE’ sharing pies, perfect for up to four people – or just devour yourself, if you love pies as much as we do, no judgement.
Between 26 February and 8 March (Monday-Friday) dig in with family and friends, with a choice of Chicken & Pancetta, Cheese, Onion & Leek or extra special Lamb Shank (+£20 supplement). The brand-new sharing pies at The Black Friar will be priced at £65 (or £16.25pp) including sides of greens and mash or fries.
The now annual Pie Festival was introduced in 2022 following national food critic Jay Rayner’s glowing review of Chef Ben Chaplin’s homemade pies, hailing them as “pies done proper”. The festival cements The Black Friar as the home of pies, serving up generously filled, daily specials alongside beloved menu signatures.
For the remainder of the Pie Festival, customers can find three fixed pies, consisting of Creamy Chicken and Pancetta Pie, Minced Aged Beef and Root Vegetable Pie and Classic Fish Pie alongside a host of daily ever-changing specials deliciously crafted by Chef Ben Chaplin. Expect specials including the likes of a breakfast pie, a selection of curry fillings, sweet dessert pies and even a doggy pie, especially for man’s best friend.
£10 pies will be available all day every Monday and will be served until 6:30pm between Tuesday-Friday. To book a table for the Pie Festival, head over to The Black Friars website.
The Black Friar is located just a 10 minute walk from Deansgate, at 41-43 Blackfriars Rd, Manchester M3 7DB.
