One development that is the talk of the town is St Michael’s. Led by Gary Neville, the first phase of the Manchester development is set to be complete this year, but one spot set to join the neighbourhood shortly after is Chotto Matte, an acclaimed Japanese-Peruvian dining experience.
St Michael’s has now revealed an exclusive first look at what its stunning rooftop terrace is going to look like once the restaurant opens in early 2025. Chotto Matte will be part of the development bordering Jackson’s Row and Bootle Street, which will consist of nine stunning floors of workspace, outdoor spaces and a proper British boozer/the renowned Manchester institution, Abercromby.
Occupying the entire 20,000 sq ft rooftop at No. 1 St Michael’s, Chotto Matte is aims to combine “urban flair with fine dining and inventive Nikkei cuisine to create a highly-sensory experience”. With locations in London’s Soho and Marylebone, Miami, San Francisco, Toronto and Doha, Chotto Matte has become a culinary destination recognised for its fresh, healthy and inventive Nikkei dishes such as ceviche, tiradito, anticucho BBQ, sushi, sashimi and tempura, masterfully crafted cocktails and lively atmosphere.
The restaurant will feature Chotto Matte’s signature design elements such as an open sushi counter, robata grill, table-side torched sushi, lava stone features, and graffiti-inspired artwork. On the rooftop terrace, guests can stay warm with the fire pit as they soak up the views overlooking Manchester’s cityscape.
Kurt Zdesar, Co-Founder & Owner of Chotto Matte, said: “We are delighted to be working with Gary Neville and his incredible team to launch Chotto Matte in the much anticipated St Michael’s development, immersing the brand in the dynamic and burgeoning food scene of Manchester. The CGIs provide a real insight into the unique rooftop location of the restaurant. It’s fantastic to mark the first UK launch of Chotto Matte outside of London with this site and gives us a new opportunity to showcase our concept to a wider audience.”
Chotto Matte was first set up in London in 2013 by renowned restaurateur Kurt Zdesar, inspired by the rich heritage of Japan and the vibrant spirit of Peru. The restaurant concept is also continuing to grow with further confirmed sites in Tbilisi, Riyadh and Dubai, as well as one coming soon to Manchester.
St Michael’s announced in late 2023 that its £400m St Michael’s development in Manchester will be home to W Hotels and W Residences in a major deal with Marriott International. The agreement will see a 162-room W Hotel located within the Manchester development’s 41-storey tower.
