Night Time Economy Adviser for Greater Manchester, Sacha Lord, has announced that he will be paying for everyone’s food and drink at a local restaurant in South Manchester this weekend so guests can dine for free. Following on from his free drinks ‘Happy Hour’ across Greater Manchester last summer, which saw him cover the bar tab at various local venues for one hour, Sacha Lord is now taking his generous initiative one step further by offering to pay for everyone’s food and drink this Sunday (August 20).
Taking to Twitter this morning, the Parklife and Warehouse Project co-creator revealed the independent Manchester restaurant which he would be footing the bill for. The restaurant selected for his generous offer was Chorlton establishment, The Thirsty Korean, situated on Manchester Road.
In a video, Sacha Lord said: “This Sunday, Chorlton, Manchester. There’s a place on Manchester Road called The Thirsty Korean and I’ve met with the owner [Eunji Noh], she’s amazing, she’s lovely. She’s got great pride in what she does.”
The night time economy advisor will be covering all costs on the night regardless of how many people turn, which we anticipate will be A LOT. The Thirsty Korean will be open between the hours of 4pm and 10.15pm on Sunday, however there will be no bookings available, simply walk-ins only.
As for the catch, there isn’t one. Detailing the generous offer, Lord said: “Between 4pm and 10:15pm, go in there, eat as much as you want, drink as much as you want, because I’m footing the bill. It’s that simple. There is no catch… Eat as much as you want, drink as much as you want, try and rinse me. We need to support these independents.”
He also went onto say how he first became aware of the restaurant after Eunji was reported as having been bullied and suffering racist abuse when looking to advertise her business. Not only to support local hospitality and independent businesses during these tough times, Lord is calling on Mancs to do “what we do best” and to “stand up to those bullies”.
So whether it’s a plate of kimchi fried rice, stir fried squid with gochujang or Korean fried chicken all washed down with some soju or beer, enjoy and help support our independents. Better still, it’s free!
