It was a saddening blow to the city when the news that Habas would close its doors for good broke late last year. The Middle Eastern restaurant marked the third dining concept by Simon Shaw (El Gato Negro, Canto) in Manchester, taking the former Panama Hatty’s site and transforming the Grade II-listed wine cellar into an atmospheric Turkish-inspired food haven. A world away from the new development that Shaw and co have planned for the space this spring…
Breathing new life into 43a Brown Street, just off King Street, the acclaimed chef is set to unveil the Black Cat Club this month – an energetic and engaging new space in Manchester that will invite guests to game, socialise, and eat all under one roof.
While the exact date for the opening has been kept under wraps, the team has granted us access to take some sneak peek images of what Black Cat Club will look like, and has also confirmed that we can expect the doors to fling open for the very first time this month.
The new venue will also venture into a completely new vibe for Mills Hill Development Limited, too – the company behind El Gato Negro and Canto – this time, introducing gaming elements such as Flyby Darts and interactive shuffleboard that guests can partake in whilst enjoying pizza, burgers, and a selection of delicious small plates (this is a Simon Shaw venture, after all!).
Black Cat Club will be the first venue to offer interactive shuffleboard in Manchester, and will soundtrack the fun with regular vinyl DJs playing. Additionally, guests will also get to enjoy a premium sports viewing experience, which will boast table service at the touch of the button so guests don’t have to miss a moment of the game they’re watching.
Simon Shaw said of the new concept: “We are thrilled to announce the launch of new concept, Black Cat Club, sister venue to Michelin recommended El Gato Negro and neighbourhood favourite, Canto.
“Our new concept, is all about bringing people together in a high energy environment, with great music and refined interiors.. We’re introducing interactive group games alongside a diverse and contemporary food menu.
“We can’t wait to open our doors and see you all at Black Cat Club”.
Stay tuned for more details on the new opening coming soon.
