Following planning approval earlier this year, Quayside has officially begun work to transform Salford’s unique waterside destination into a leading regional leisure and community retail hub. Development is now underway on the first phase of a £16m investment, which will include 100,000 sq ft of leisure space, with two leisure operators securing 80,000 sq ft including Hollywood Bowl and Hyperdrive Karting.
Hyperdrive Karting
Spanning 47,000 square feet, Hyperdrive Karting is set to bring a next-generation indoor karting concept to Quayside, featuring high-performance electric karts and immersive racing experience, as part of the wider transformation of the upper mall. The venue’s state-of-the-art circuit was custom-engineered and installed by 360 Karting, a global authority in innovative track design.

Hollywood Bowl
The development will also include Hollywood Bowl, which will occupy a 33,000 sqft unit, blending classic bowling and modern arcades with Quayside’s expanding dining scene. Alongside Hyperdrive Karting, these attractions aim to form an all-day entertainment hub built to boost footfall, foster repeat visits, and engage guests of all ages.
When is work at Quayside set to be complete?
Construction is now underway, with the first phase of the new-look Quayside set to complete in summer 2027. Hyperdrive Karting and Hollywood Bowl are expected to open later in the year in autumn 2027.

“This marks an important moment for Quayside and brings our plans for a new era of leisure and community-focused retail to life.”
Ben Hey, Asset Director at Peel Retail and Leisure, who own and operate Quayside, said: “This marks an important moment for Quayside and brings our plans for a new era of leisure and community-focused retail to life. We’ve seen strong momentum behind the destination over recent years, and this investment builds on that success, creating a significantly enhanced experience for our customers and the wider Salford community.
“With construction now underway, we’re looking forward to seeing the transformation take shape, ahead of welcoming new experiences including Hyperdrive Karting and Hollywood Bowl to Quayside in 2027.”

Phase 2 of Quayside transformation
As part of its Phase 2 transformation, Quayside will be upgrading car parks to enhance the arrival experience and improve accessibility and customer flow across the destination. The complete transformation of Quayside will see the remodelled upper mall focused on larger-format leisure uses, while retail will remain concentrated in the lower mall.
The latest investment builds on the success of recent openings including Kargo MKT, Brewski’s Big Tray BBQ, Oxygen indoor activity park and TeeClub.
