Named after one of France’s popular wine regions, all day wine bar and coffee shop, Provence, offers wine for very occasion (quite literally) plus wine at the push of a button and ‘wine-oke’ on the menu. Located in the Manchester business district of Spinningfields, Provence has a non-traditional approach to wine, which allows guests to select from a menu categorised by ‘wine occasions’ as opposed to a typical region or flavour profile.
Whether it’s a catch-up with friends, a date night spot, a pre-dinner treat, or a post-work pick-me-up with colleagues, the uniquely grouped wine menu will match the perfect wine to your mood and current life situation. Split over two floors, the intimate space in Manchester seats 50 guests indoors and 16 on the outdoor terrace, aiming to provide a relaxed drinking and grazing space in the heart of the city.
Open from 8am daily, Provence serves the city’s morning commuters right through to the evening, with an ‘available until it’s gone’ daily changing breakfast menu. Options include featuring porridge and Greek yoghurt pots, sourdough toast with preserves, freshly baked pastries and cakes from famed Ancoats bakery, Companio, filled croissants and seasonal sandwiches.
In the evening, Provence serves up small plates, alongside meat charcuterie boards carefully curated by local artisans Northern Cure as well as cheese and vegetarian seasonal sharing platters from Amato – perfectly accompanying the bar’s 80-strong wine menu. As for the non-wine fans of Manchester do not worry as Provence offers a selection of craft beers from Northern brewers Cloudwater and Northern Monk, alongside cocktails, spirits and sustainable low-no options from Seedlip, Punchy and Karma, amongst local brands.
For the discerning wine drinker, Provence’s wine vending machines or ‘wine jukebox’ enables guests to sample a variety of premium wine options normally available only by the bottle. Top-up wine cards allow guests to sample eight rotational wines by the glass.
Plus, groups can book bespoke ‘wine-oke’ (wine and karaoke) sessions with the option to add on entertainment, games and wine tastings hosted by an in-house wine aficionado. House music and selected hip-hop will soundtrack evenings at Provence, with minimalistic interiors, exposed clay and concrete textured walls, complimented by tan leather seating and intimate warm lighting. Provence offers a monthly calendar of events featuring everything from wine-oke nights to traditional wine tastings.
Anthony Ellis, founder of Provence, said: “Myself and the team have always been big wine lovers but are yet to find a venue that simplifies the experience and doesn’t take itself too seriously! We want to change the way people think about wine bars and make it a fun and approachable experience for all to enjoy.”
