Just over a year after last increasing prices for subscribers, Netflix has announced another price hike, which will affect all of its customers – including those on the basic plan.
For the first time in a decade, the basic plan will be subject to the price hike, raising from £5.99 to £6.99 per month. Netflix’s more expensive plans will be included, too, with the standard plan raising £1 to £10.99, and the premium plan raising £2 to £15.99 per month.
Speaking of the increase, a spokesperson said: “We have always been focused on providing our members both quality and clear value for their membership,”
“Our updated prices reflect the investment we have made in our service and catalogue and will allow us to continue making the series, documentaries and films our members love as well as investing in talent and the creative industry. We offer a range of plans so members can choose a price that works best for them.”
Subscribers will be given 30 days notice of the price increase sometime this year, dependent on their billing cycle.
The streaming giant is currently competing with Disney+’s growing library of content, alongside other popular streaming platforms such as Amazon Prime and HBO Max – who have also ventured into creating original programming.
Netflix is now home to a number of huge hit shows, including Bridgerton, The Crown and Stranger Things – with a fast-growing library of original movies, too, starring some of Hollywood’s biggest stars such as Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne Johnson and Benedict Cumberbatch.
