Whether you’re a blue or red supporter, this past weekend brought some exciting news for Manchester football fans as both teams will be taking on each other in one of the biggest sporting competitions. For the first time in the history of English football, a Manchester Derby will take place for this year’s FA Cup final and it’s going to be massive.
Last night, an all-Manchester final was confirmed after Manchester United beat Brighton 7-6 in a tense penalty shoot out to decide who will be meeting Manchester City in the next round. In a match that finished goalless after extra time it fell to Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof to score the crucial penalty in order to take the team to the FA Cup final.

On Saturday 22nd April, Manchester City, who has submitted plans to expand the Etihad Stadium, comfortably beat Sheffield United 3-0 which saw Riyad Mahrez score a hattrick against The Blades. But now sees plenty of excitement for both teams and fans as the two Manchester teams compete for the FA Cup title this summer.
This will be Manchester United’s first FA Cup final since their loss to Chelsea back in 2018 and Manchester City’s first since 2019 when they went on to win it against Watford. Last year’s competition saw the rival for both Manchester teams, Liverpool FC, win against Chelsea.

Manchester United have won 12 FA Cups over the years, the last coming in the 2016/17 season, whilst Manchester City will be hoping to win their seventh. The Manchester Derby FA Cup final will take place at Wembley Stadium on June 3 and it’s excepted to be quite the occasion. The train ride down to London and back up to Manchester after the final could be quite interesting to say the least…
And if you’re not fortunate enough to get tickets, they’ll be plenty of places in the city showing the game on the big screen.
