The Loo of the Year Awards have hunted high and low for the best bogs, lavs, crappers and thrones across the UK, and nine Wetherspoon pubs in Greater Manchester have been honoured for the quality and standards of their toilets. Now in its 36th year, the awards are aimed at highlighting and improving standards of “away from home” toilet provision across the UK.
Loo of the Year Awards inspectors will make unannounced visits to thousands of toilets at sites across the UK, in order to judge them. All of the toilets are graded silver, gold, platinum, platinum plus or diamond with unacceptable toilets not graded at all.The toilets are judged against numerous criteria, including décor and maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, hand washing and drying equipment and overall management.
The Wetherspoons pubs in Manchester city centre which have been awarded a platinum rating by inspectors include The Moon Under Water in Deansgate, The Paramount on Oxford Road, The Waterhouse on Princess Street, Wetherspoons in Piccadilly, The Ford Maddox Brown on Oxford Road and The Seven Stars on Dantzic Street. Castle in the Air on Trafford Way, the Mardi Gras in The Orient, The Trafford Centre and The Great Central on Wilmslow Road, Fallowfield were also awarded a platinum rating.
The Moon Under Water manager, Chris Bradshaw, said: “We are delighted with the award. Staff at the pub ensure the toilets are in excellent condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors.”
The Loo of the Year Awards 2023 managing director, Becky Wall, said: “The toilets at the nine pubs have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained. The pubs deserve their platinum awards.”
The Loo of the Year Awards 2023 ceremony will take place on January 18, 2024, where all the winners with silverware will be revealed.
