You know, I know, and most of Manchester knows, just how good Gooey is. But now pop singer Lizzo has discovered the Manchester spot known for its doughnuts and cookies, and more recently the sandos from Gooey.
The singer, who is doing a gig in Manchester tonight (March 11) as part of her UK tour, ordered an assortment of goodies from Gooey and posted a video to TikTok announcing “I’ve got the bag”, revealing a signature Gooey takeaway box. Lizzo, who is known for top tunes like ‘About Damn Time’ and ‘Good as Hell’, ordered the tofu sando and hash browns from the Northern Quarter spot, captioning the video “Manchester got the good good.”
Gooey has become a Manchester institution thanks to its tasty, New-York inspired treats varying from warm and gooey cookies to sugar doughnuts stuffed with a variety of fillings making up the delectable menu. After a few years popping up in the Northern Quarter, one of Manchester’s favourite sweet treat brand opened a neighbourhood bakery and café in August last year which has locals and famous faces from afar flocking to the venue.
In the TikTok video, Lizzo said: “This is why I love the UK because they’re hash browns are…ooofff”, followed by a chef’s kiss gesture. The star described the hash browns in the UK as “top tier, always crispy, never gloopy, always salty” and it seems the ones from Gooey in Manchester delivered as later in the video Lizzo combined the hash browns into her tofu sando for a tasty breakfast combination.
After performing in Glasgow earlier this week, Lizzo will perform tonight at Manchester’s AO Arena then head to the 3Arena in Dublin followed by two performances at London’s O2 to close her UK tour. She recently released her latest album ‘Special’, with songs from the album being performed on tour, and will also be at Glastonbury this summer. Lizzo will continue her tour with a stop in the Bahamas followed by a return to the States, however you might not find a Gooey like Manchester there…
