Gooey has become a Manchester institution thanks to its tasty, New-York inspired treats varying from warm and gooey cookies to sugar doughnuts stuffed with a variety of fillings making up the delectable menu. But after a few years popping up in the Northern Quarter, one of Manchester’s favourite sweet treat brand is opening a new neighbourhood bakery and café this August bank holiday.
Taking over the former Cat Cafe site in the Northern Quarter, Gooey’s new home will boast an in-house bakery, takeout coffee offering and a counter full of pastries, cookies, doughnuts and baked goods. What’s more, the new Gooey will now serve their take on brunch; think bacon butties on Shokupan bread, whipped avo on toast, a show-stopping Gooey French Toast stuffed with dulce de leche and sides including house-made hash brown stacks and halloumi with a chilli jam. If it’s anything like their sweet treats, we are sold.
Located on High Street, Gooey Bakery & Café will offer their largest bakery selection yet introducing croissants, cruffins and pastries alongside their insta-famous warm, gooey cookies and sugar coated stuffed brioche doughnuts; with classics, specials and crowd-pleasers all made from scratch daily. Those looking for a caffeine fix can pop in for a Dead Good coffee or the best brew in town, with Gooey serving no-frills Yorkshire Tea.
Plus, we can finally see how the baking magic happens as their new home also boasts an open bakery where customers will get a front row seat to the baking action. The kitchen will be home to the production of all things Gooey; from the proofing to the filling, the rolling to the decorating, the bakery will be a treat for all the senses.
Alongside the counter offering, the new Gooey site will feature a café, serving up the most mouthwatering, freshly made brunch and lunch dishes, each with their own Gooey touch. The Gooey bakery and café aims to bring a West Coast vibe with Northern Quarter charm and will be open daily 9am-6pm from August 26.
The Gooey Kiosk at Ducie Street Warehouse will remain open from Wednesday-Sunday for the usual of Gooey cookies, donuts & buns.
