Remember the school days of slabs of sponges laced with custard and counting up your pennies to buy a cornflake tart at break time? Well, a brand new bakery is serving up these old school favourites to the people of Manchester along with an array of sensationally sweet creations.
Bury-born bakery (now that’s a tongue-twister), Little Blonde Bakes, has recently branched out of the Greater Manchester borough to take on the city by opening up a baking at the former Lazy Tony’s site in Ancoats. Serving nostalgic bakes and a massive menu (and portions) of indulgent sweet treats, you’ll find classic bakes as well as millionaire’s crepes, milkshakes, ice cream sundaes and more, all available for take-out, pick up or delivery via UberEats.
Located on Radium Street, you can order brownies and blondies in decadent flavours like cherry Bakewell, Cadbury Caramel and Rolo, Nutella cookie dough and Biscoff and white chocolate. As for cookie fans, you can enjoy cookies stuffed with Nutella or Kinder, as well as eat warm Smarties or Biscoff and white chocolate cookie dough straight from the tub and topped with ice cream.
Little Blonde Bakes allows customers to step bake in time and get a sweet (quite literally) hit of nostalgia with the bakery’s winter warmers. Choose from the likes of old school cake with sprinkles, cherry Bakewell slice or cornflake tart all served with a pot of either hot or cold custard. Or for a little shake up on the classic, the Ancoats bakery is also serving old school chocolate cake with minty green custard.
Launched by baker Francesca Harrison who has been baking for six years –Little Blonde Bakes first started at home, before moving to open a cafe alongside her mum Jayne in Bury. The pair first launched their cake business in 2016, selling bespoke cakes, cupcakes and blondies from their kitchen at home, before opening their own site in Bury.
In an Instagram post, Little Blonde Bakes commented on the Ancoats opening saying: “When an opportunity so good arises you’ve just got to take the bloody risk.. people of Manchester ARE YOU READY???… So excited for this next chapter.. we have been quiet for so long and now it’s time to level up…Don’t worry dahhhlins our Bury shop is here to stay.. this is just another location.”
