We really do like to champion music as much as possible here in Manchester, and that’s especially important when it comes to grassroots venues and musicians. Now, renowned venues Jimmy’s and Matt and Phreds are coming together for a series of live event nights and gigs to highlight the importance of preserving independent nightlife and culture within Manchester City Centre.
Both venues, unique in their charm, have become known as true tastemakers for up-and-coming music in the Manchester live scene, which is what makes this collaboration so exciting.
The inaugural event will take place on May 10 2024 with up-and-comers Denver County Council headlining the gig. Jimmy’s will work alongside the band and team at Matt and Phreds to curate a lineup of the best rising talent that Manchester and surrounding areas have to offer, making these gigs ones to look out for. The stage of Matt and Phreds will add to its already extensive genre showcasing by welcoming Indie, Rock, and Blues through this collaborative programming with Jimmy’s.
Having quickly amassed a cult following in their Manchester site, Jimmy’s were given notice to relocate their venue to make way for offices in the space in 2019. Their new premises in Ancoats has allowed the business to stay thriving however, licensing restrictions have meant that they have had to leave their live music roots behind.
Through sheer passion, persistence and, now, support from Matt and Phreds, Jimmy’s is making its way back into the live music scene once again with these gigs. This collaboration aims to highlight the trials that independent venues are battling with every day in a proactive and inspiring way.
Having quickly risen in their live pursuit, new Manchester powerhouse Denver County Council recently found themselves sharing the stage with The Blinders at prestigious venue New Century Hall for their third ever gig.
Having formed together after years in different musical ventures, Denver County Council have created a distinctive and experienced sound. Their commanding vocals and addictively charming, energetic melodies are quickly raising the band’s profile; and this is just the beginning for them. Following their successful debut single on March 29 with track Seventeen, the event will coincide with Denver County Council’s single launch party with the band’s sophomore track Mad Love.
With supports still to be announced, the night is guaranteed to be a one-stop shop for finding some brand new talent that are proudly backed by two independent venues within the Manchester music scene.
