Whether you’re local or a newbie to Manchester’s nightlife, you’ve probably been to Depot Mayfield or at least heard of it. Beyond reflecting Manchester’s rich character and heritage, it stands as a central cultural hub for the groundbreaking projects shaping the city’s future. Hosting such artists as Barry Can’t Swim, D.O.D, and Nia Archives, as well as the world-renowned Warehouse Project, Homobloc and other immersive events. As of recently, though, it turns out this incredible 10,000-capacity warehouse is more than just a typical nightlife entertainment venue.
What’s special about Depot Mayfield?
For those who don’t know, Depot Mayfield has a fascinating history. It is actually a formerly abandoned railway station and parcels depot. But that’s not all. The venue was used as a filming location for Peaky Blinders and the television show The Last Train, in which the entire station doubled as a post-apocalyptic Sheffield. At one point, it was even turned into an indoor go-karting track! If you look closely, you can still notice faint black tyre marks from 90s racers drifting.

From an abandoned station to a cultural playground for all the family
Depot Mayfield has become a booming source of Manchester’s economy and has elevated the nightlife scene, providing us with plenty of fun. But while the thriving nightlife is a big highlight, there’s now something to do for the whole family and even kids.
Recently opened Bubble Planet has become a viral must-visit interactive art spot for many locals and tourists. This new immersive world has turned this former railway station into the ultimate place to let your inner child loose. In this dedicated bubble exhibition, not only can you encounter bubbles, but enjoy ball pits, VR technology, interactive elements, and innovative effects.
But Bubble Planet is not the only exciting art escape the Depot Mayfield has to offer. Opening this upcoming March, The Mystery of Banksy – A Genius Mind will become another family-friendly destination. Featuring over 200 reproductions of Banksy’s most iconic pieces, spanning a wide range of media. You can find Girl with Balloon, the Walled Off Hotel project, as well as many other famous artworks, transforming Depot into a street art destination.
The infamous Depot Mayfield is an unparalleled venue, blending history with modernity, catering to a wide range of events. With over 13,000 square metres across its five large-scale spaces, including expansive underground chambers, iconic arches, a rooftop platform, and sprawling yards. Whether it’s fashion runways, immersive exhibitions or private parties, Depot Mayfield is where Manchester’s heart belongs.
