We can’t get enough of a gorgeous view in and around Manchester, and we’re so lucky to be surrounded by incredible countryside to indulge in a walk, drive or train ride with lovely surroundings. Luckily, the Yorkshire Dales Explorer, an exciting new train service that links Greater Manchester and Lancashire to the Settle Carlisle line and the wonderful Yorkshire Dales, has now launched for an exciting season.
The Yorkshire Dales Explorer operates on Saturdays only as an extension of the Rochdale to Blackburn train service, with two trains per day going on to Ribblehead via Clitheroe and the Ribble Valley.
Although trains terminate at Ribblehead, there are good connections with the Leeds to Carlisle service for those wanting to travel along Mallerstang to Kirkby Stephen, as well as to the Eden Valley, Appleby and Carlisle.
Ribblehead station offers the opportunity to view the iconic Ribblehead Viaduct that featured so much when the line was under threat of closure in the 1980s, as well as the stunning Ingleborough which can be clearly seen from the station.
Councillors from the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority are encouraging the public to take advantage of the service. The Explorer replaces the cancelled Dales Rail train service that, until last year, would run on Sundays from Blackburn and Clitheroe to Hellifield.
When can you travel on the Yorkshire Dales Explorer train service?

Plus, the Lancashire Rail Ramblers are developing a guided walks programme along with connecting bus services, which will be available to download soon.
