Who doesn’t love a kebab? Not only are they a great way to end your night out on a high but they are one of the best lunch options in order to get a bite of everything. Luckily for Mancs vegan doner legends What The Pitta! who create babs as good (if not better) than the real meat deal are heading to Hatch.
Bringing their Middle Eastern flavours to the shipping container village by Oxford Road this November, customers can still tuck into their 100% vegan menu just like their Northern Quarter branch. Opening their second city centre outpost at Hatch this month, What The Pitta! will be serving up their hand rolled breads, homemade hummus and sauces, as well as their signature doner pieces.
Their famously good ‘doner’ meat is made with soya and seasoned with top secret spices, served on a kebab, gyros, or as a mezze/ chip-box. Other menu highlights include the Falafel Wrap – home-made falafel served with authentic spices, tahini dressing, and chill sauce in freshly made bread, and the Chick’n Gyros – vegan chicken pieces, served inside fluffy pitta with tomato, lettuce, red onions, paprika fries & signature vegan tzatziki.
What The Pitta! was created after its owner and founder, Cem Yildiz, had switched to a plant-based diet, and saw a gap in the market for a high-quality vegan kebab that matched all of the incredible taste and flavours found in the classic lamb doner kebab. Roj Gul and Cem opened their first street food stall in Shoreditch in 2016, and What the Pitta! was born.
The team are not only passionate about the flavours of their food, but also about providing a healthier, more sustainable alternative to a beloved British favourite. The whole menu at Hatch will be climate labelled in collaboration with Klimate, to help customers make more informed choices about what they’re consuming.
What The Pitta! will join the already well-established community of exciting and vibrant street food vendors who have found a home at Hatch, such as Kong’s Chicken Shop & Cheeky Tikka Bites, just in time for the festive period.
Cem Yildz from What the Pitta! said: “We’re so excited to bring our Vegan Doner Kebabs to Hatch. Having started as a street food vendor in a similar place to Hatch back in 2016, we really like the bustle and community of these kinds of spaces. We can’t wait to introduce our meat-free kebab to even more customers, and highlight that you can enjoy vegan food without compromising on flavour!”
