Get ready for veggie.
Pret a Manger has opened a new shop catering solely to its herbivorous (and omnivorous) customers. Veggie Pret opened in Deansgate last week and, as the name suggests, serves only vegetarian food. It’s one of only four in the country and the first to open outside of London, bringing with it an exclusive Veggie Pret menu which features a whole host of tasty delights, including vegan mac ‘n’ cheese and a spicy halloumi and chargrilled peppers toasted baguette.
Hannah Dolan, Head of Food Development at Pret said the shop was the result of hundreds of customer requests on social media asking the company to open Veggie Prets in more cities.
She said:
“When we asked customers on social media where they’d like to see the next Veggie Pret, Manchester was the top request. We’re delighted to be able to reveal today that the city is our next location. “Veggie Pret is still growing and the future is looking as green as ever. We want customers to keep telling us what they think – and where they’d like to see Veggie Pret next.”
This comes as the chain has announced plans to introduce full ingredient labelling to all products that are freshly made in its shop kitchens. This decision was made following the conclusion of the Coroner’s inquest into the tragic death of Natasha Ednan- Laperouse, who died after eating a Pret baguette containing sesame. The labels will list all ingredients, including allergens.
Pret CEO, Clive Schlee said:
“I want to say again how deeply sorry we are for the loss of Natasha. I said we would learn from this tragedy and ensure meaningful changes happen. I hope these measures set us on course to drive change in the industry so people with allergies are as protected and informed as possible. Nothing is more important to Pret right now.”
Veggie Pret is open Monday to Friday 7am – 7pm, Saturday 7.30am – 7pm, Sunday 8.30am – 6pm. Find it on Google Maps.
