Sailing into Manchester this summer for its 10th-anniversary tour, the Tony award-winning Titanic: The Musical is set to take over the stage at The Lowry this July, as the show docks up at some of its favourite theatres across the country.
Embarking on a 15-stop tour, the critically acclaimed production will visit cities such as Manchester, Cardiff, Birmingham and Newcastle throughout the spring and summer of 2023, bringing a new story about the real-life people who boarded the Titanic in 1912. Following its successful launch in Bromley, the Titanic: The Musical tour arrives in Greater Manchester from Tuesday 4th July to Saturday 8th July, taking place at The Lowry in Salford.
Telling the personal stories of some of the real people on-board, Titanic: The Musical shares the ‘hopes, dreams and aspirations’ of the ship’s passengers in what would become the ship’s final hours – from the third-class immigrants to the glamorous wives and Barons of the first class.
Unlike the hit movie by James Cameron – which followed the fictional Rose and Jack as they embarked on a short-lived and completely doomed love affair – the theatre production also boasts a ton of musical numbers, too, with music and lyrics written by Maury Yeston.
In the ten years since the production first premiered on stage in London, the show has swept up an array of awards, including five prestigious Tony awards for ‘Best Musical’, ‘Best Score’ and ‘Best Scenic Design’.
Danielle Tarento said: “Steven, Vaughan and I are so excited that the great ship Titanic is setting sail on a new UK Tour. I can’t believe that it’s been 10 years since that first production at Southwark Playhouse – it feels like a lifetime ago and only just the other day in equal measure!
“After the couple of years that we’ve all lived through, to be able to mark this anniversary by revisiting some favourite venues from the last tour and also bringing the show to some new ones feels especially joyful.”
Titanic: The Musical will sail into The Lowry between July 4 and 8, and you can pick up tickets here.
