The trailer for the third series of Netflix’s epic royal saga picks up in the 60s, with Olivia Colman taking over the lead role from Claire Foy.

The teaser opens in the run-up to the Queen’s Silver Jubile, as she looks, somewhat regretfully, back on the last 25 years of her reign, saying: “This country was still great when I came to the throne, all that’s happened on my watch is that the place has fallen apart.”

Helen Bonham-Carter takes over the role of Princess Margaret from Vanessa Kirby and is seen posing for the iconic 1962 picture of her in the bath wearing her tiara, taken by then-husband Lord Snowdon.

While viewers are shown flashes of historic moments, including the miner’s strike during the premiership of Margaret Thatcher (portrayed by Gillian Anderson) and the Aberfan disaster of 1966.

The series has undergone a full cast overhaul, with Tobias Menzes replacing Matt Smith as Prince Philip, Charles Dance portraying Lord Mountbatten and Josh O’Connor taking on the role of Prince Charles.

Season Three of The Crown will be available on Netflix from November 17.
