A combo that weirdly works.
In a city that’s been blessed with many weird and wonderful creations – from CBD burgers to those lathered in peanut butter – it’s rare we’re ever caught off guard by something new. That was, until, we discovered Sweet Diner’s Biscoff Burger. Launching last month as an August special and sticking around for a little longer during September, the sweet and salty dish has blindsided us, to say the least, but the craziest part is that it weirdly works.
A progression from the ‘peanut butter burger’ that has been taking over Manchester’s burger joints – including Sweet Diner – the Biscoff Burger offers a sweeter take on the strangely satisfying concoction, with the crunch from the crushed up Lotus biscuits providing the texture that would usually be provided with crispy onions, and the Biscoff spread turning into a melty sauce that results in something kind of similar to a sweetened-up Asian satay. Which, when you put it that way, isn’t so crazy after all.
Consisting of a toasted, seeded brioche bun before being topped with Biscoff spread, a stack of cheesy beef patties, Biscoff sauce and a dusting of crunchy, crushed-up Lotus biscuits, the burger is a show-stopper, to say the least, presented in the most Instagrammable manner with a Lotus biscuit standing front-and-centre on top of the bun.
The burger is available at Sweet Diner, 48 Hyde Rd, Denton, M34 3AQ, so if you’re feeling daring enough to give it a go, be sure to request it during your next visit. If you fancy something super sweet, there’s also a fun new ‘Cheat Day’ burger, too, which includes Oreos, Nutella, strawberries, Kinder Bueno, and Biscoff sauce, all loaded inside a toasted brioche bun.
