A culmination of two generations of the Distefano family, the San Carlo group has announced the opening a brand new branch of their Italian eatery in Alderley Edge, Cheshire. San Carlo Alderley Edge finally opened on 17 August (Thursday), following a dramatic £3 million renovation of the site.
Located on London Road, in the heart of Alderley Edge, the stunning transformation offers an opulent, contemporary take on traditional Italian dining with interiors inspired by Grand Milanese villas and gardens, creating a space that has a captivating ambiance and a timeless sophistication.
The 164 cover restaurant includes a spacious dining area, a stunning terrace with retractable roof features a white interior pergola strung with Italian crystal pendant lights, a bespoke Moroccan plaster and marble open flame fireplace, and an abundance of verdant planting creates a lovely dining terrace, reminiscent of a chic Italian garden restaurant.
The marble bar is trimmed with brass and rich high gloss marine wood, typically found on luxury yachts, here customers will be able to enjoy post dinner drinks and late lounge music on Friday and Saturday nights.
Having been founded by the eponymous Carlo Distefano when he came to the UK from his native Sicily at the age of 17, San Carlo has become a £60 million restaurant empire which currently numbers 23 authentic Italian restaurants across the UK.
Priding itself on being “defiantly independent”, San Carlo has a passion for great food, service and style, and is proud to offer locations around Manchester including Fumo, Cichetti, and Gran Cafe – as well as its main San Carlo sites, of course.
Work is also underway on a luxurious first floor private dining and event space complete with marble and brass detailed feature bar, chandelier, terrazzo patterned flooring and a range of tables and luxurious seating – creating an agile, elegant space which can be configured to suit any occasion.
San Carlo’s ever popular traditional Italian menu will be on offer, including signature favourite – tagliolini lobster. New summer dishes have also been added to the menu including Baccalà e Patate – salt cooked cod served with potato and Taggiasche olives dressed with lemon oil, and Insalata Finocchio and Formaggio Caprino – a fresh summer salad served with broad beans, fennel and goats cheese dressed with extra virgin olive oil and lime.
Managing Director Marcello Distefano said: “This marks a significant personal milestone in our family’s journey as we venture into this vibrant and thriving community – it’s where my siblings and I grew up and went to school; it feels like coming home.
“It’s also a perfect location for us as many of our loyal customers in Manchester reside in and around the area. As we gear up for the opening, we wanted to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Alderley Edge community for the overwhelming support and enthusiasm – we’ve taken our time with the remodelling and design; we wanted to ensure we did this great location justice and deliver a destination we feel has been sought after for some time. We cannot wait to open the doors and welcome in our regular and new diners.”
