A culmination of two generations of the Distefano family, the San Carlo group has announced the opening a brand new branch of their Italian eatery in Alderley Edge, Cheshire. In a cryptic announcement on Instagram the caption read: “The countdown is on. San Carlo Alderley Edge coming soon.”
Having been founded by the eponymous Carlo Distefano when he came to the UK from his native Sicily at the age of 17, San Carlo has become a £60 million restaurant empire which currently numbers 23 authentic Italian restaurants across the UK.
Priding itself on being “defiantly independent”, San Carlo has a passion for great food, service and style, and is proud to offer locations around Manchester including Fumo, Cichetti, and Gran Cafe – as well as its main San Carlo sites, of course.
The restaurant group has had an overwhelming number of fans commenting on the Alderley Edge Instagram announcement. Fan @gingermumstyle said: “Oooh fabulous!!”, with @daxonsax agreeing: “Yessssssss 🔥🔥🔥🔥”, all within a sea of applause emojis.
It’s fair to say there’s a lot of excitement at the prospect of this respected restaurant opening up shop in the village just under an hour’s drive from Manchester, and San Carlo can even call world-class footballers fans, with Manchester City’s Erling Haarland popping in recently!
The locally-adored San Carlo family empire is clearly big on quality. San Carlo managing director, and son of Carlo, Marcello Distefanos said: “The key to everything is the quality of the ingredients, that is what it comes down to. Italian food is based on simple cooking. So if the quality of your ingredients is good enough, then people will come back.”
The team seem pretty early on in the process so there’s no word on an opening date, but San Carlo has encouraged those interested to follow their dedicated Alderley Edge Facebook page to stay on top of any updates.
The new San Carlo will be located at London Road, Alderley Edge, Manchester, SK9 7QD.
