In honour of National Beer Day taking place tomorrow (June 15) and the continuation of the great weather across the UK, new data has revealed the UK’s best cities for beer garden availability, with the city of Salford coming out on top. After all, it’s not called Costa del Salford for nothing.
Digital marketing agency Complete White Label analysed data from useyourlocal.com to calculate the best cities to visit if you want to grab a seat in a beer garden this summer. With the likes of Seven Bro7hers Beerhouse, The Old Pint Pot, Adelphi Lads Club and The New Oxford, no wonder the city of Salford came top of the best beer garden list with a staggering 176 beer gardens per 100,000 residents.
Newcastle came a close second at 109 and the north of England was a clear winner overall, nabbing five of the top 10 spots. The city of Manchester came in eighth place in the list with 80 beer gardens per 100,000 residents, with the capital of England one of the lowest cities in the list with around 12 beer gardens per 100,00 residents.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, online searches for ‘beer garden’ have spiked by 90% in the last 30 days, with Brits looking to make the most of the scorching weather. Agency co-founder James Taylor had the following to say on the data findings: “Taking a trip out specifically to find a seat in a beer garden can be stressful in the summer, especially in population-dense cities where beer gardens can be few and far between.
“Venues should be mindful that outdoor space can be a big draw in the warmer months, and can also be a great way to generate social media buzz. Our analysis shows that tweets using the hashtag #beergarden enjoy an exceptionally high 61% retweet rate. They are also much more likely to include an image too, providing a fantastic organic means of promoting your venue to a local audience.
“The findings show that the North of England clearly has a fondness for beer gardens, so when it comes to planning your summer pub crawl then maybe the north should be the destination to opt for!”
