Manchester will gather at the Cenotaph in St Peter’s Square on Sunday 8th November to honour the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community. The annual service is free to attend, and anyone can join, from residents and families to visitors.

The order of the Remembrance Sunday ceremony in Manchester
The ceremony runs from 10.30am to 12 noon. Here is how it will unfold:
10.30am: Veterans, serving military personnel and cadets, led by the Greater Manchester Police Band, march from John Dalton Street to the Cenotaph.
10.45am: The civic procession sets off from Mount Street, accompanied by the Scots Guards Association Pipe Band, and makes its way to the Cenotaph.
10.58am: The service begins.
11am: A two-minute silence honours those who have lost their lives in conflict. A maroon will be fired to mark both the start and the end of the silence.

After the service, veterans, military personnel and cadets will make a short return march across St Peter’s Square to Mount Street.
Councillor Shaukat Ali, the Lord Mayor of Manchester, called Remembrance Sunday “one of the most important occasions in Manchester’s civic calendar”. He encouraged residents, families and visitors to join the city at the Cenotaph “to pay our respects and ensure that the contribution of past and present generations is never forgotten”.

Getting there: Closures and tram changes
Several road closures will be in place across the city centre during the event. Trams will not run through St Peter’s Square between 10.15am and 12.30pm, so allow extra time and check travel information before you set out. The council has published travel and road closure details, plus livestream access, on its website.
Remembrance events across the city
The city centre service is one of many commemorations taking place across Manchester. The council continues its partnership with the Royal British Legion, supporting local communities to organise their own remembrance events through community grants.
