Work has started on a 34-storey, 316-home tower off Dantzic Street, just north of Manchester Victoria station. It is the first building in a £225m scheme that will bring nearly 900 homes to Red Bank, part of the Victoria North regeneration.
Leading developer Far East Consortium (FEC) secured planning permission in August 2023 for 1,551 new homes in the Red Bank neighbourhood across plots known as NT02, NT03 and NT04.

What is being built in Manchester’s Red Bank, and when
The tower, which is due to be complete by 2029, is a build-to-rent development, so the 316 homes will be for renting rather than buying. Contractor HG Construction, a London-based firm that has now won its third large development in Manchester, was recently appointed to build four buildings in the Red Bank Riverside phase.
Alongside the 34-storey building, three more buildings will follow, called Falcon, Kingfisher and Midrise. According to FEC, they will hold 579 homes in total and are expected to start in early 2027, ranging from eight to 30 storeys.
Together, the tower and the three later blocks make up the “nearly 900” figure: 316 plus 579 comes to 895 homes. A later phase is also planned, with another 650 homes across three further buildings of 27, 24 and eight storeys; however, a start date has not been given for that phase.

Where Red Bank Riverside fits in Victoria North
Red Bank sits on the northern edge of the city centre, a short walk from Manchester Victoria station. It is one of the first neighbourhoods in Victoria North, a joint venture between Far East Consortium and Manchester City Council. The wider area covers roughly 155 hectares of north Manchester and aims to deliver 15,000 homes in total.
For anyone who lives, works or commutes around Victoria, expect building activity around Dantzic Street from now on. The new homes will arrive in stages between 2029 and the years after.

“The Victoria North programme will be truly transformative for Manchester”
Cllr Gavin White, Manchester City Council’s executive member for housing and regeneration, said: “This is an exciting next phase for the Victoria North regeneration programme that will bring life back to long-term brownfield sites on Dantzic Street, next door to the brilliant schemes already delivered by FEC in this neighbourhood, including affordable housing options that create real housing choice in this part of the city.
“These sites, including the nearby Red Bank plateau, are incredibly challenging to bring forward with historic industrial uses and land contamination. So it’s particularly positive news that construction will start imminently on the first site and kick-start what will eventually become a 5,500-home investment across Red Bank, complementing both the recently opened St Catherine’s Wood park and the 130 social rent homes that are being delivered to the north in Collyhurst.

“The Victoria North programme will be truly transformative for Manchester, creating a new town within our city through long-term vision and ambition to deliver quality new housing for our residents.”
