Joining the ever-growing list of hidden cocktail spots across the city, One Eight Six has finally reopened its secret doors after it sadly burned down back in 2021. Despite having risen from the ashes (quite literally), the speakeasy bar still boasts the novelty of sneaking behind a barbershop mirror to enter.
The subterranean bar on Deansgate closed down after a huge fire on New Year’s Eve in 2021, but now it’s back with the “same vibe. Same location. Just a whole lot sexier…” according to founder Dean Mac.
Disguised behind a fully-functioning barbershop (where you can actually get a haircut before embarking on an evening out), the super suave bar can only be found by those in the know. Find the right mirror and you’ll be greeted with a luxe, low-lit bar decked out with plush furniture, seriously cool neon lights, and a modest stage area – where live acts (including jazz bands) regularly perform.
Inside the underground hidden bar, you’ll find plenty of velvet booths to cosy up in to watch live entertainment whilst sipping on a drink. On the menu you’ll find plenty of magic, with a whole host of showstopping drinks that make the difference between the typical bar, and the sophisticated speakeasy you’ve always been in search of.
From whiskey-based beverages served in a bell of smoke, to the extensive cocktail list which features a number of ‘perfect’ gin serves, there’s a touch of class for everyone. Try the likes of the South of the Border, the bar’s take on a spicy margarita or their cocktail dedicated to Parma Violets sweets.
One Eight Six is currently open Wednesday to Sunday, with doors opening from 6pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 4pm on Fridays and Sundays and from 12pm on Saturdays. On Fridays and Saturdays, guests are welcome to drink til 2am, with doors closing at 1am on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. You can book your spot here.
