Fully deserved!
Under a new initiative emerging from Spain, all NHS staff could be offered a free holiday to Ibiza as a thank you for all their brave and selfless work throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Staff have battled on the frontline for over 100 days as the virus struck Britain, and now a campaign named Together For Health Heroes wants to send them off to the sunshine for a week’s stay.
The initiative, which has the backing of Ibiza regional government, would see “best in class” accommodation offered to NHS staff and other healthcare workers across Europe, gifting them homes and hotels for a stay. So far, over 60 private properties have been offered up as part of the campaign. Hotel chains such as Atzaro, OD Hotels and Angus de Ibiza are also set to provide rooms for the staff.
Speaking to Ibiza paper, Diaro de Ibiza, tourism councillor of Ibiza Juan Miguel Costa said: “[The project aims to] compensate those who have looked after us, risking their lives in many cases, and who deserve that we all do our share to make sure they have holidays that meet high expectations.”
These holidays would be offered to NHS staff in 2021, during the months of April, May and October. It is said to include staff from hospitals, hospices and care homes, and the lucky recipients would be invited to stay for a week.
“How can we say THANK YOU to those putting their own lives at risk for us?
“Together we are driving change by celebrating and rewarding those who put our community, family and friends first during the COVID-19 outbreak. Unprecedented times highlight exceptional people. We thank those who we have trusted with our lives, by gifting them our homes and hotels in Ibiza and across Europe.”
