Already spanning three different locations across Manchester, Nell’s Pizza has become a top pizza spot in and around the city thanks to their huge New York-style slices and innovative toppings. Now, the pizzeria has announced that they are expanding and set to open a site later this year in the former home of Croma restaurant in the city centre.
Nell’s is the brainchild from the founders of The Beagle in Chorlton and Common in the Northern Quarter and has become famous for their massive 22 inch pizzas and 14 inch slices bigger than your head that don’t fall apart. In 2022, a restaurant fully dedicated to Nell’s pizza opened at Kampus, where guests can chow down on 22″ pizza pies, sip on signature cocktails and indulge in Nell’s ice cream sandwiches.
Situated just off Albert Square on Clarence Street, Nell’s is set to transform the former Croma site and open this autumn, making it the pizzeria’s fourth spot in Manchester. Croma, which still has sites in Chorlton and Prestwich, operated at the city centre site for over twenty years but shut down in 2022 and has been vacant for more than two years.
A planning application has now been submitted by A Place Called Common to turn the old Croma restaurant into a Nell’s pizza joint. An official opening date is yet to be confirmed, but the team at Nell’s are excited to be opening in a different area of the city centre, bringing their delicious New-York style slices and original cocktails to Clarence Street.
Co-founder Jonny Heyes said: “We can’t wait to open in such an iconic building, it’s got a really special place in the hearts of Manchester and we’re going to really inject some fun into it. Expect big ‘za on the other side of town, a dedicated bar space and loads of events programming to really bring it to life.”
