From food to flowers to antiques and vintage goods, markets are the perfect place to indulge in the local culture and find hidden treasures. However, one of Manchester’s very own has been ranked highly in a list of the most popular markets to visit in the UK and it’s none other than the award-winning Bury Market.
Based on a study by Capital on Tap, the financial company analysed 30 of the top markets in the UK and ranked them based on a variety of metrics, including the monthly search demand and Google ratings. They also revealed which markets are the most popular on Instagram and TikTok.
With a Google rating of 4.6, Manchester’s Bury Market came in third place as one of the most popular markets in the UK. Made up of an indoor hall, plus over 300 outdoor stalls, the market sells anything from food and fashion, to jewellery and pet accessories.
Crowned the ‘Best Market Attraction’ earlier this year at the Great British Market Awards 2023, Bury Market was described as one of the best markets in the North West and is regarded as a ‘regional treasure’. In 2022 and 2019, it was named ‘Britain’s Favourite Market’ at the awards, beating the likes of London’s Borough Market.
Perhaps best known for its Bury Black Pudding, the award-winning market sees around 18,100 searches a month, the fourth-highest number of all locations analysed. For those planning a visit, the open-air market is only open on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, but the indoor section of the market is open six days a week, only closing on Sundays.
