Moor Hall itself was first recorded in 1282. A grade II* listed gentry house of mid-sixteenth century origin, Moor Hall is one of the most important listed buildings in the UK, acquired by Peter Stanley of Bickerstaffe, who built the present manor house, in 1533.
Each of the new standalone garden rooms is located in the secluded woodland that engulfs Moor Hall’s surrounding gardens. Designed by KOTO, the rooms celebrate biophilic living, embracing the dynamic relationship between nature, design, crafted luxury and sustainability.
Nestled amongst the hall’s grounds and gardens, the bedrooms are said to “evoke the kitchen garden and culinary experience throughout your journey”. The seven garden rooms at Moor Hall are named after floral plants and herbs which feature in cookery such as Anise Hyssop, Borage, Woodruff, Oxalis, Sweet Cicely, Melilot and Sea Buckthorn.
Each garden room is thoughtfully designed, featuring an emperor bed, a shower room and open plan lounge with a media wall. When you step outside onto the decking, you’ll find your own private hot tub and terrace, with some offering views of the lake.
Moor Hall is located in Aughton, less than an hour’s drive from Manchester and one of Lancashire’s best kept secrets – a quiet but attractive residential area on the outskirts of Ormskirk, well-served by a good variety of shops and cafes. Ormskirk has a popular art gallery with some exciting exhibitions and contemporary collections.
If you fancy getting back to nature on your trip, the Gorse Hill Nature Reserve offers spectacular views over the West Lancashire Plain – alternatively, on the east side of Ormskirk, Ruff Wood is a 19-acre wildlife-spotting haven.
Moor Hall is also situated close to a number of pleasant footpaths and other trails of varying degrees of difficulty. A popular circular walk starts one mile down the road from Moor Hall and lasts for 8.5 miles, taking in part of the Liverpool Leeds Canal.
This incredible location is well and truly perfect for the cabins to reside in – think beautiful spring walks bookended by soaks in the hot tub, enjoying weekends away knowing the Moor Hall garden rooms are striving for ultimate sustainability, allowing guests to truly be at one with nature. Prices start at £650 for bed & breakfast based on two sharing, with some rooms available to stay at from July 2024 onwards.
