There’s not much more that we love than a festival, but add in the word ‘free‘ and you’ve got us hooked. Luckily for us, the vibrant Middlewood Locks Fest returns this weekend with food, drinks and fun for all the family – and it’s completely free.
The second annual canal-side festival at the award winning Middlewood Locks neighbourhood in Salford takes place on Saturday 10th May from 2pm until 10pm, bringing a daytime market, children’s interactive workshops, face painting, live music with performances from The Ski Band and others, a pop-up pub and street food vendors, water-based activities, as well as a spectacular fire display at dusk to the space.
Middlewood Locks Fest is a free to attend event with key highlights including a giant Canadian goose puppet celebrating the abundance of waterside wildlife at Middlewood Locks, and a unique speaking and listening bike, recording stories about memories of the canal. Street food vendors are set to include some of the city’s finest, such as Taka Taka Mama, Gingers Ice Cream Emporium and Adams & Rose Bar.
This year Middlewood Locks Fest even has its very own pop-up pub courtesy of the New Oxford, and there are also plenty of places within the fabulous gardens to enjoy a picnic by the canalside.
The Makers Market is also set to make an appearance at Middlewood Locks Fest, bringing together local makers, artisans, performers and creators selling a range of beautiful products such as jewellery, plants, artwork, clothes and produce.
The Canal & River Trust will also be hosting explorer’s activities for families, and children from the local St Philip’s CE Primary School have been working with artists to make decorative items for the event which will be displayed amongst the trees within the landscaping.
What’s more, visitors will be able to jump on board rafted canoes for water-based activities and a live DJ set with a mesmerising fire and sound installation will make for a fabulous sunset finale – it’s really not one to miss.
Middlewood Locks Fest takes place on Saturday 10th May from 2pm-10pm, with no tickets required. Find out more information here.
