This year marks a massive milestone for Salford, as the city officially celebrates 100 years since King George V granted its Royal Charter on April 21, 2026, recognising Salford as a powerhouse of British industry.
The festivities kick off this week, turning the city into a vibrant hub of history, music, and community spirit. Here’s everything you need to know about the Salford 100 celebrations and how you can get involved.
The big launch

The official anniversary on Tuesday 21 April will be felt across every corner of the city. Whether you’re a lifelong resident or a newcomer, there are plenty of ways to join the party:
- Commuter surprise: Listen out if you’re using public transport! The legendary “Punk Poet” John Cooper Clarke will be the official voice of passenger announcements for the day.
- Citywide activities: From Swinton Civic Centre to local leisure centres and schools, expect 1920s-inspired afternoon teas, sports youth clubs, and “Dance 100” challenges.
- Civic celebration: The day concludes with a special evening civic event to honour the city’s journey from 1926 to today.
