The lights switch-on follows Manchester’s glittering display last night.
MediaCityUK is officially getting into the festive spirit tonight, with an official Christmas lights switch-on taking place this evening. The display will join Manchester city centre’s beautiful array of lights that spread across the centre – with a number of light sculptures also dotting around some of the busiest hot spots.
Kicking off at 6.30pm tonight, the virtual event will be hosted by BBC Radio 1 DJ Katie Thistleton and CBBC sensation Hacker The Dog, and will mark the start of the festive season at the multi-use hub – which is home to a number of restaurants and bars, as well as filming studios, the BBC and ITV.
In addition to marking the start of Christmas at MediaCityUK, the live-streamed launch event will also see the return of the popular ‘Box On The Docks’ pop-up, which was delayed as a result of the national November lockdown. The pop-up originally had Seven Bro7hers, The Dockyard, Vertigo and The Botanist lined up for festive takeovers, with beers, burgers and more in store for guests.
Following in the footsteps of the summer versions of the boxes, the greenhouses have undergone a festive makeover – with designs by Gogglebox’s Helena Worthington and commissions by local artists. There’ll also be a Salford Foodbank collection point, a magical Elf and Fairy Garden, a fabulous Shimmer Wall, and the ever-popular Makers Markets on hand to provide the festive vibes.
To tune in to the live-stream, head to MediaCityUK’s Facebook page before 6.30pm.
