Just another reason why Manchester is simply the best.
Now, if there’s one thing we weren’t expecting to write today, it was this. Manchester has been named the safest city to live in the UK – a claim that, if you read the newspaper every day, will probably come as a bit of a surprise to you. But according to the guys at Homedit.com, it’s true!
Ranking number one in their latest survey, the city of Manchester ranked highly in a number of areas, including the highest streetlight expenditures in the UK, low flood risks, and most surprisingly, low crime rate. Areas of Greater Manchester, in particular, that scored a low crime rate included Stockport, Wigan and Trafford, which all featured in the top ten districts with the lowest crime rate.
Other factors that were considered include the number of buildings within a 2km radius of a fire station, as well as the number of buildings within a 2km radius of a hospital.
While Manchester managed to scoop the top place, East Riding of Yorkshire came in at a close second, with Stockport nabbing third place – again, thanks to its high streetlight expenditure, low crime and low flood risks.
Other areas of the North didn’t score so favourably, with the North East as a whole ranking in the bottom 10, and areas such as Lincoln, Middlesborough, Bradford and Blackpool all scoring high crime rates within the study.
