After a glorious May bank holiday, us Mancs have got a taste for the warm weather and we’re in luck as a mini heatwave is expected to come our way this weekend. The temperature in Manchester is set to rise this Saturday to a whopping 23°C – in other words, it’s cracking flags and it means it’s finally shorts weather. But would you believe it, Manchester is set to be hotter than the sunny summer holiday destination of Mykonos!
On Saturday 11th May, Manchester is predicted to start sunny with some cloudy intervals in the afternoon with the city expected to experience highs of 23ºC and lows of 14ºC. The Met Office’s outlook for Friday to Sunday, says “high pressure continues to dominate bringing lots of dry weather. Plenty of warm sunshine with the odd shower possible by the weekend and a continued chance of fog overnight”.
However, for those in sunny Mykonos and Santorini on Saturday the Greek islands are predicted to experience highs of 18ºC and 19ºC meaning Manchester will be hotter than these holiday destinations for once. However, Mykonos and Santorini will still remain sunny despite the lower temperature and they still have their beautiful beaches…
However, like anything, all good things must come to an end and after Sunday (May 12), the weather in Manchester is expected to return to its classic miserable climate meaning Mykonos will be back to being hotter than us. Rainfall amounts could be above average in most areas according to meteorologist predictions and Manchester will start the week with rainfall and highs of 19ºC compared to sunshine and highs of 21ºC in Mykonos.
Sharing their UK long weather range forecast for May 12 to May 21, The Met Office said: “Sunday will likely be the last widely dry and fine day for a while, with warm sunshine for most, especially in parts of the south and east where temperatures similar to preceding days, around the mid-20’s – warmer than average for the time of year. However, coastal eastern areas could be cloudier and cooler, with an onshore breeze taking the edge off the higher temperatures.
“After Sunday, the weather is expected to switch back to become changeable across the country, with further spells of rain and showers expected. Rainfall amounts could be above average in most areas. It is also possible that rain will be heavy at times, and any showers could turn thundery. Temperatures are also expected to fall closer to average for May.”
So, before the weather changes, enjoy it Manchester! This weekend, slap on the SPF (UV levels are set to be high) and head to a beer garden, your nearest beach or park with a pint, cocktail or ice cream in hand. Our little slice of summer has finally arrived, despite it being short-lived…
