Mancs have made a serious effort to become more eco-friendly.
If you were sitting smug thinking Manchester was the best at everything, you’d be right – because not only are we the most zen city in our little country, but now, the greenest too… According to Honda, at least. Taking in a number of factors, the Japanese car manufacturer assessed which cities were leading the pack when it came to being eco-friendly, looking into recycling rates, household efficiency measures, commuting habits, attitudes to the environment and more.
Ranking in first place was, of course, us Mancs, who received the highest scores for the eco measures taken in each household – with 46% of residents saying they’ve limited their use of plastic. The results also suggested our city is on track to meet its 2038 carbon-neutral promise, ranking fourth-best for emissions in the study. Check out the other cities that made the list below:
- Manchester
- Plymouth
- Nottingham
- Glasgow
- Birmingham
- Cardiff
- Newcastle
- Bristol
- Southampton
- Liverpool
Rebecca Stead, Head of Automobile at Honda UK, said of the study: “With global warming and climate change being one of the biggest concerns to face our planet, there is no denying that there is an ever-growing importance to address what we do now to protect the world we live in.
“It’s important we all do what we can to take steps to help the environment and we want to champion those that are doing this.
“We hope this research will also encourage more people to do the same and take any step they can – big and small – to protect the planet.”
