A number of Manc-born celebrities will take to their doorsteps this Thursday.
Arranged with the hopes of lifting the spirits of Greater Manchester residents, a number of the region’s superstars will be joining together to perform during a doorstep sing-a-long this Thursday, including Liam Gallagher, Mark Owen, Emeli Sande, Tim Booth, Mike Pickering, Tom Walker, Liam Fray and Aitch.
Named ‘Together In One Voice’, the event will be live-streamed to the community via a special weblink on MIF LIVE, where viewers will be encouraged to take to their doorsteps and sing along to popular hits such as Shine by Take That and Wonderwall by Oasis. The soundtrack to the sing-a-long has been recorded in advance during isolation by 20 different community choirs, who’ll be providing the backdrop for the tracks.
Not only that, but drones and street cameras will be capturing the community spirit, too, so we can see other areas of the city coming together for the special event.
Sir Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council, said: “We’ve all turned to music or a great song when times have been tough and all know how uplifting that can be. On Thursday we’re giving everyone across the whole of Greater Manchester the chance to join in and sing Together In One Voice from their doorsteps and windows to harness that magical power of music and to re-connect again with their neighbours and communities.”
Continuing: “Lockdown has been taking a toll on us all but this is a night that will give everyone a real lift. It’s a moment to celebrate the strength of our communities and what people have done to help each in these difficult times. Together In One Voice will help us all feel connected, despite the need to keep a distance, and will be one of those incredible occasions which make Greater Manchester so special. We are grateful to some of our biggest names for supporting our communities in this and creating a moment we’ll never forget. I would encourage everyone to get involved and get out on your doorstep!”
The live sing-a-long will take place this Thursday May 28, kicking off at 7.30pm.
