The Manchester bar may be closed, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy the atmosphere at Jimmy’s!
Their Northern Quarter bar was closed down recently due to the building being purchased, however, that’s not stopping Jimmy’s giving Mancunians exactly what they need during the Coronavirus crisis. While the popular rock bar gets its new Ancoats site ready for opening (and while the majority of the public hides at home from COVID-19), the bar will be moving live performances online for people to enjoy in the comfort of their own homes.
Hosting the first of many just last night, Jimmy’s plan to make “music a leading light in these dark times”, hosting a whole series of “isolation gigs” which calls on artists and musicians to play live on their Instagram channel every night at 9pm.
The gigs are a wonderful way of helping keep the public entertained while couped up inside, and will hopefully help the music industry through this tough time of postponements and event cancellations. The bar is on the hunt for talented musicians to get in touch for the project, saying in a social media post “We’re encouraging musicians to reach out to jimmy’s to support this initiative and perform on our channel to keep spirits high and keep music alive”.
Jimmy’s Northern Quarter site closed back in November, saying goodbye with a heartfelt post that read “We hope that the office that take on the building have got a good cleaning firm lined up after all our staff and customers leave, because the place is gonna fucking stink of legends”.
The site was the first for the rock bar and live venue before expanding to Liverpool, where they’ve been equally as successful.
The announcement of the closure continued “We now have a new building in Ancoats and we will be bringing a restaurant floor into the business over here like we have done in Liverpool. Something we are VERY excited about. You’ll still feel at home with us in Ancoats, soaked in neon lights, listening to a 70s playlist and drinking a Jimmy’s lager”.
Jimmy’s currently operates a site in Liverpool and is set to open a new bar in Ancoats soon. Fans can check out their live gigs daily on their Instagram here.
