Manchester is an absolute heaven for antiques, vintage and second-hand lovers off all kinds, and with a growing appetite for shopping sustainably (and interestingly), we cannot get enough. One Manchester spot that may have passed you by is Insitu, which aside from stocking a great variety of goods, is housed in a gorgeous former Victorian pub.
Offering antiques and architectural salvage, Insitu is run by Laurence, who has been trading under the name since 1984, and along with a talented team lives to reclaim, reinvent and reimagine antiques and novelty, architectural pieces including furniture, stained glass windows, cornices and everything up to salvaged giant seahorses from a swimming pool…
Helping to furnish and equip some of Manchester’s favourite institutions, Insitu supplies clients including Rudy’s, Alberts Schloss, Se7en Brothers, Flok, Runaway Brewery and many more, with many of the characteristic long German-style tables often frequenting the beer gardens of these spots being from Insitu. The German beer table and bench sets are now synonymous with summer in Manchester, and with a visit to Insitu, you can own a set of your very own.
Aside from these iconic tables, Laurence and the Insitu team are passionate about, well, just about everything. Whether you’re looking for a reclaimed Victorian radiator, a crystal clear chandelier, a gorgeous set of candlesticks, even an Elektra Belle Epoque coffee maker, or practically anything else, they’ve probably got something for you.
With plenty of one-of-a-kind gems, there’s really nowhere quite like Insitu. Inspired by, and inspiring to, the very fabric of Manchester and its people, you cannot overlook Insitu for its antiques and architectural salvage, and although it’s not a pub anymore – the Turville Hotel, to be precise – you’ll feel like you’re with mates if you flag down Laurence for a chat.
Opening times: Monday-Saturday, 10am-6pm | Closed Sundays. You can shop Insitu online here.
