It’s been a long few months since the fateful day that I visited Gregg’s, pumped with adrenaline at the fact that, for once, I was going to switch my usual pizza order for a sausage, bean and cheese pastry – only to be told at the till by an overly chirpy server (given the situation) that they had been temporarily discontinued as a result of supply issues.
As any Gregg’s lover would be, I was devastated. I’d spent the entire morning drooling over the prospect of flaky pastry filled with the heartwarming flavour of baked beans infused with melted cheese – only to leave disappointed with a cold slice of pizza that had clearly been sat there for quite some time. But alas, the time has come, and the sausage, bean and cheese pastry is finally set to make a triumphant return.
Teasing its comeback on Twitter just days ago, the popular nationwide bakery confirmed that the ‘comeback you’ve bean waiting for’ would land in stores from Thursday 13th January (today), accompanied with a pixelated photo consisting of a tasty pastry with, what fans have presumed are, beans gracefully falling out of it.
Gregg’s lovers were, of course, delighted by the news, expressing their excitement in the comments with tweets such as “it’s been too long” and “2022 needs this!”.
The popular product had been missing from shelves for months, with staff at my particular local store citing supply issues as the reason behind its disappearance. Gregg’s continued to reassure fans while the pastry was missing, stating that they were “working round the clock” to try and get the pastry back in cabinets.
