This month Greater Manchester is certainly putting itself on the map, particularly the culinary one, as three restaurants in the region have recently been included in the Inspectors’ latest additions to the Michelin Guide. And to make it more impressive, the three dining spots have all opened in Greater Manchester within the last 12 months.
“We’re over the moon to be included in the Michelin Guide so soon after opening!”
Of the restaurants featured in the Inspectors’ latest additions in the Michelin Guide for Great Britain & Ireland was Manchester’s produce-led, modern British restaurant Pip, located inside Treehouse Hotel. Led by proud Mancunian chef Mary-Ellen McTague, known for her previous celebrated restaurants Aumbry and The Creameries, as well as founding the charity Eat Well MCR, Pip combines sustainability, innovation and local heritage in a welcoming setting. The all-day restaurant offers a relaxed yet refined atmosphere across its restaurant, lounge and bar spaces, from morning through to evening.

Speaking on the recognition, Mary-Ellen McTague, chef partner at Pip, said: “We’re over the moon to be included in the Michelin Guide so soon after opening! It’s an incredible honour, made possible by the dedication of our amazing team and the support of our wonderful suppliers. Working with them to showcase the very best of the North West is a daily joy.”
What other Greater Manchester restaurants have been added to the Michelin Guide?
But it was not just Pip that received accolades from the Michelin Guide, as Greater Manchester restaurants Winsome inside the glass atrium of Whitworth Locke on Manchester’s Princess Street and Cantaloupe in Stockport have also become new additions too.

In a social media post, the owners of Winsome said: “Today is a good day! We’re absolutely chuffed to tell you that we’ve made it into the Michelin Guide!”
The Michelin Guide described the cooking at Winsome as having “an admirably gutsy, straightforward quality to it, with hints of nostalgia”. Here, diners can enjoy the likes of cold cuts, whole fish, hearty homemade pies and a mixed grill.

As for Cantaloupe, a new, modern cuisine restaurant nestled within Stockport‘s Great Underbank, the Guide said “there’s a fresh, clean feel to both the décor and the cooking at this welcoming little wine bar and restaurant”. The dining spot was recognised for its “concise but appealing wine list” as well as its cooking “that relies on simplicity and skill, with immense care poured into [its] dishes.”
What other Greater Manchester restaurants are featured in the Michelin Guide?
Pip, Winsome and Cantaloupe join a wide selection of Greater Manchester featured in the Michelin Guide such as Maya, Higher Ground, The Spärrows, Erst, Örme, The White Hart, Another Hand, El Gato Negro, Adam Reid at The French as well as Green-starred venue Where The Light Gets In, Michelin-starred spots, Mana and Skof.
