Greater Manchester has seen some changes to its transport network over the past few months with the introduction of the Bee Network and the announcement that trams will run later on Fridays and Saturdays. However, one topic that continues to spring up is whether the Metrolink will be extended further across the Greater Manchester region, and whether that happens or not, the public has some strong opinions on which areas should gain stops across the region.
We asked on Secret Manchester’s social media channels which areas of Greater Manchester should be considered for Metrolink stops, and of course, you gave us that in buckets. It seems it’s high time the Metrolink was extended, judging by the response, so we’ve shared a list of all the places you said the trams should reach.

Now, of course, everyone wants a Metrolink stop as close to them as possible, as this list shows, but it goes to show how outdated the system is. The Metrolink has continued to grow over the years since its launch back in 1992, now covering over 60 miles of Greater Manchester, but many point out the fact that you often have to go into the city centre in order to get to your destination.
One commenter summed up the thoughts of many others, saying: “How about one that circles Manchester joining all the other stops up rather than having to go into the centre then out again, covering Stockport, Bury, Bolton, Wigan”.
With the Bee Network expanding and public transport being at the forefront of politics at the moment, hopefully these dreams will become a reality in Greater Manchester, with some potential improvements to the Metrolink network.
